At 17, Matera expanded his creative pursuits into illustration and graphic design, later teaching visual communication at a specialized high school in Italy. His versatility also led him to work in cinema, where he directed photography for commercials and short films.
In 1990, he founded the MARIO MATERA GROUP, where he serves as the creative director and photographer, blending various artistic disciplines to create innovative visual projects. Known for his fashion photography, Matera’s work eventually evolved into a personal exploration of photographic narratives.
His painting style has evolved over the years, moving from detailed pencil drawings to more fluid, layered compositions.
