Sandra Shashou transforms fragility into strength through her signature “Broken” sculptures. Working with shattered porcelain and antique objects, she reconstructs what was once destroyed into forms of renewed beauty and meaning. Rooted in her personal experience as a woman, her work embraces fractures not as flaws, but as markers of resilience, courage, and transformation. Each piece carries a quiet tension between loss and rebirth, where delicate materials are imbued with emotional power. Through this process, Shashou elevates breakage into a language of survival, inviting viewers to reconsider imperfection as a profound and essential part of the human story.

Sandra Shashou is a Brazilian-born, London-based multimedia artist whose work explores resilience, transformation, and the emotional weight of lived experience. Born in Rio de Janeiro, she developed an early appreciation for antique porcelain and decorative objects, influenced by the heirlooms that surrounded her childhood. She later studied at the City & Guilds of London Art School, earning a BA (Hons) in Painting, and initially established her reputation through commissioned portraiture for prominent figures.
In 2013, Shashou’s practice evolved into sculpture, marking a defining shift in her artistic language. Working with shattered fine china, she began creating her iconic “Broken” series, works that reconstruct fragmented antique objects into powerful sculptural compositions. These pieces reflect themes of fragility, courage, and rebuilding, rooted in her perspective on life as a woman.
Her work extends across sculpture, painting, photography, and mixed media, often incorporating collected objects that carry personal and historical resonance. Shashou has exhibited internationally, with shows across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, and her work has been presented at leading fairs and institutions, including Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
Today, she continues to create deeply personal works that transform destruction into enduring beauty.
