Constantinos Valaes, born in Athens in 1957, is a distinguished Greek artist whose journey encompasses studies in hagiography and painting under esteemed professors from the School of Fine Arts. His relentless pursuit of artistic mastery led him to obtain a state diploma in silversmithing and metal sculpture, disciplines that have profoundly influenced his creative expression.
He is an esteemed member of the Chamber of Fine Arts and has been honored with a gold medal from UNESCO Arts, Literature & Science of Greece for his significant contributions to the arts. His sculptures have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Greece and internationally, and they reside in private collections and public spaces worldwide.
Throughout his career, Constantinos Valaes has embraced the inherent disorder and imperfection present in the initial stages of creation. He believes that this chaos is not a hindrance but a vital component of the artistic process—an opportunity for organic growth and unexpected discovery. This philosophy is vividly reflected in his sculptures, where raw metals are transformed into intricate forms that capture the essence of nature’s unpredictability.
Specializing in bronze, silver, and gold, he crafts unique sculptures inspired by the ancient Greek reverence for the olive tree—a symbol of peace, prosperity, and resilience. His works breathe life into plant motifs, embodying his vision of transcending perishability to achieve timelessness. By welcoming imperfection, he infuses his creations with authenticity and vitality, inviting viewers to explore the delicate balance between chaos and order.
Today, Constantinos Valaes works alongside his son Angelo, uniting traditional techniques with a bold, contemporary vision. Their shared creative dialogue merges generational knowledge with modern expression, resulting in evocative works that resonate with the legacy of Greek heritage. Through their artistry, the humble olive tree is reimagined as a timeless masterpiece—a living emblem of continuity, identity, and the enduring soul of Greece.
