Born in the outskirts of São Paulo, Brazil Kobra has become one of the most recognized muralists today, with works on 5 continents.
Kobra Style and Theme
Utilizing bright colors and bold lines while staying true to a kaleidoscope theme throughout his art is probably one of the most recognizable features of his work. The technique of repeating squares and triangles allows him to bring to life the famous people he chooses as his subjects, from Nelson Mandela and Anne Frank to Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse.
Kobra Art Inspiration

As an artist, Kobra draws inspiration both from society and human beings as individuals; in particular, human behavior. Protesting such topics as the mistreatment of animals, war, and poverty, it is important that each work of art communicates a message of peace.

Other subjects, such as history and memory and iconic historical figures that were vital in shaping the world we know it (usually as leaders of peace) are most often present in Kobra murals. Within the art is possible to see a contrast between different historic times: the cars, the clothes, the behaviors.
In Brazil, the artist’s home country, it is common to not preserve heritage through architecture. It was from this realization that Kobra initially developed the idea to use paintings and murals to draw attention to the preservation of what was, in his mind, forgotten buildings.
